Assistant Business Controller

Bring your curiosity to work as our next Assistant Business Controller. You will be part of our Finance team reporting to Azette Lonie. In this role, your mission is to work alongside the Business Controller you will play a key role in the financial success of NPE.You will contribute directly to how we create high‑quality products and solutions for our customers. 

Your day-to-day

  • Prepare, review and analyse monthly Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets and branch performance reports.
  • Monitor project and contract profitability, identifying trends, risks and opportunities to improve business performance.
  • Partner with Branch Managers, Regional Operations Managers and Sales Teams to investigate variances and provide commercial insights.
  • Support the month-end reporting process, including journals, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning activities.
  • Coordinate financial reporting requirements and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting deadlines.

Your skills and experience

  • Skills and Experience:

    Essential:

    • Minimum 10 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
    • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce.
    • Strong understanding of financial reporting, management accounting and month-end processes.
    • Proven experience preparing and reviewing financial reports, management accounts, Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with ERP or financial systems.
    • Strong reconciliation, analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the business.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and supporting team members in a positive and collaborative environment.
    • Ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
    • High level of professionalism with a strict commitment to confidentiality.

    Desirable:

    • CA or CPA qualification (or working towards completion).
    • Experience within a multi-site, operational or project-based business environment.
    • Experience with audit processes, budgeting and forecasting.
    • Knowledge of AASB16 / IFRS16 lease accounting requirements.

This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working remotely and being on-site at our  National Pump & Energy Branch  located in Welshpool, Perth Western Australia.
