Your Role
The Senior Reliability Engineer will promote best practice on Reliability Engineering by providing global support to the business with training, facilitation and analyses in all aspects of Reliability Engineering. As a Subject Matter Expert, you will maintain and grow a network to deploy the Design for Reliability tools and their use.
You will work with individuals and teams that are located and distributed globally, mostly supporting New Product Introduction teams but with other functions as necessary. You will need to perform your role with confidence so that you become recognized as the Subject Matter Expert whilst adapting to the different cultures and business needs of the teams that you work with. There will be some opportunities for travel to engage face to face with the teams where there is a clear benefit in doing this, to be assessed on a project-by-project basis.
Main Responsibilities
• Maintain and expand a global network to facilitate the Design for Reliability processes across multiple sites. Develop the capabilities of teams at those sites. Enable their effective use of the Design for Reliability Tools.
• Build relationships with key stakeholders (for example in NPI, Technology, Operations and Service) to understand any people and cultural barriers preventing successful adoption of agreed tools and methods. Enabling the transition to ‘best practice’ where appropriate.
• Independently perform complex reliability analyses (including data manipulation) and deploy established reliability engineering tools, such as Reliability Block Diagrams, Life Data Analysis and Design of Experiments in some specific projects where the team does not have the competence.
• After demonstrating competence, review the work of other engineers and teams related to Design for Reliability to ensure the quality of their output.
• Design, use and deliver training of the Design for Reliability tools and methods of the existing Design for Reliability portfolio to support specific projects within the business.
• Develop appropriate report content and format for frequently requested data and automate its delivery to stakeholders.
• Engage with our Customer Centres to understand the Customer experience as means of assessing reliability impact.
• Recommend the data to be collected to maximise the benefits from reliability analyses and activities. Ensure that any data collected is correctly classified, protected and managed.
• Identify gaps and better ways of working in the Design for Reliability portfolio. Then, with agreement from your manager, implement changes to embed these improvements with measurable progress on effectiveness and deployment.
Your skills and experience
We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every single requirement. We value diverse experiences and perspectives and are excited to see what you bring to the role.
• Engineering, quality or science knowledge at degree level, or equivalent competence demonstrated through substantial relevant experience, professional development or applied technical practice.
• Significant experience in an engineering environment, including practical application of reliability engineering methods. Experience in new product development, product improvement or design change activities would be highly beneficial.
• Demonstrable commitment to improving product quality, reliability and customer outcomes.
• Able to apply reliability engineering tools and methods in practical business situations, including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Life Data Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, Design of Experiments and maintenance strategy development.
• Able to work with data to support reliability analysis and reporting. Experience with databases, SQL, Power BI, ReliaSoft, Minitab or Python would be desirable.
• Able to collaborate effectively with distributed global teams and communicate technical information across different engineering disciplines at different levels.
• Broad engineering knowledge across multiple disciplines would be an advantage. Specific product knowledge is not required but may be beneficial.
