Job Description

Your role

Are you a cloud software developer or data engineer passionate about machine learning, Generative AI, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)? Do you want to build scalable cloud backends, streaming data pipelines, and AI-driven diagnostic tools that optimize thousands of connected industrial compressors globally?

What does a cloud & data engineer do at Atlas Copco Airpower in Wilrijk? As a cloud & data engineer within our specialized software team, you will bridge software engineering, data engineering, and applied data science. You will build and scale the cloud platform connecting physical machine controllers in the field with intelligent cloud services for fleet monitoring, predictive maintenance, and diagnostic insight.

Your daily flow involves moving fluidly between building streaming telemetry pipelines (Azure Data Explorer, Databricks, Event Hubs) and developing machine learning models for anomaly detection and failure prediction. You deploy ML models to production with drift monitoring, write infrastructure-as-code (Bicep), build backend APIs (C# / Python), and expand agentic AI and RAG architectures for unstructured technical knowledge. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers, you take ideas from early notebook prototypes through CI/CD pipelines into reliable, production-ready services. You will work via our hybrid model at our site in Wilrijk.

To succeed, you will need

At Atlas Copco Group, our slogan for various positions is "hire for attitude & train for skill". We train you for these positions through on-the-job-training. Who knows, on-the-job-training may be available for you for this position.

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in software engineering, data pipelines, and machine learning workflows

  • Solid Python development skills; working knowledge of C# or eagerness to learn

  • Practical exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred), MLOps tools (e.g., MLflow, Weights & Biases), and time-series data processing (ADX/Kusto, Spark, Databricks, SQL)

  • Familiarity with LLM applications, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, vector databases, and agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Semantic Kernel)

  • Modern software engineering practices: Git, CI/CD, containerization, Infrastructure-as-Code (Bicep), and code review

  • Knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, AMQP), predictive maintenance, or front-end frameworks (React, TypeScript) is considered a nice to have

  • Curious, pragmatic, and collaborative mindset with professional fluency in English (spoken and written)

In return, we offer

At Atlas Copco Group you will join an international and diverse environment with specialists from different disciplines.
