Job description

As a member of the CFD Competence team, you will support product development through advanced fluid flow and thermal simulations. You will work closely with design teams to optimize product performance from concept development through serial production. You will also contribute to the growth of Atlas Copco's CFD, fluid dynamics, and thermal engineering capabilities by supporting the Team Leader in developing technical competencies, standardizing simulation methodologies, and promoting engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

•  Perform advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses for a wide range of products and engineering applications. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to translate engineering challenges into high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective design solutions. Provide end-to-end technical support, from requirement definition through simulation, interpretation of results, and implementation of recommendations.

•  Adopt a customer-focused approach to understand engineering requirements and determine the most appropriate analysis methodology. Evaluate whether a problem can be addressed using engineering calculations, simplified analytical models, or detailed CFD simulations, and select the most efficient and accurate solution strategy.

•  Take ownership of project execution by:

Planning and estimating project scope, effort, and timelines.

Executing CFD simulations and delivering high-quality technical solutions.

Providing technical guidance and mentoring to team members on complex engineering challenges.

Conducting peer reviews to ensure technical quality, consistency, and adherence to best practices.

•  Collaborate regularly with global Atlas Copco engineering teams and customers, ensuring effective technical communication and successful execution of international projects.

•  Stay current with advancements in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, numerical methods, and simulation technologies. Proactively identify opportunities to improve simulation methodologies, automate workflows, and enhance analysis tools. Contribute to the continuous development of the global CFD and thermal engineering competence within Atlas Copco.

•  Ensure compliance with organizational engineering standards, quality processes, and applicable ISO procedures throughout project execution.

Education/Experience requirement

M.Tech/ M.E in Thermal/ Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering and with about 2 to 5 years of experience in CFD.

Knowledge

• Strong understanding of Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is essential.
• Demonstrated technical aptitude with a keen interest in product development and engineering innovation.
• Ability to translate complex engineering problems into appropriate simulation strategies and convert analysis results into practical design recommendations.
• Capable of critically evaluating, interpreting, and validating simulation results to support sound engineering decisions.
• Good project management skills, with the ability to plan, execute, and deliver technical projects effectively.
• Knowledge of Python programming and automation of engineering workflows will be considered an added advantage.
• Exposure to Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and OpenFOAM will be an added advantage.
