As Design Engineer / Sr Design Engineer – NPD – Oil Injected Screw Compressors, your mission is to deliver and participate in new product development projects from an engineering point of view while improving Time to Market and driving the technical competence of GECIA teams with a solution-centric approach. You shall achieve this by developing your competence and reorienting your energy towards Product Innovation and technology platforms, while maintaining On-time Delivery and a First Time Right Approach.
As Design Engineer / Sr Design Engineer, you need to plan project execution with the objective of delivering projects within the estimated time and quality standards, within the limits of GECIA's structure, processes, and guidelines at the PC Chakan location.
Your day-to-day
Key Responsibilities
Project & Customer Focus
- Execute assigned NPD activities within committed timelines and quality requirements.
- Understand product requirements and convert them into robust engineering solutions.
- Communicate project progress, risks, and technical challenges proactively.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure timely closure of actions.
- Coordinate with CAE, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Service teams.
Product Design & Development
- Design and develop oil-injected screw compressor packages, assemblies, and components.
- Create 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
- Perform engineering calculations and design validations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and design guidelines.
- Apply DFM, DFA, Design for Serviceability, and Design-to-Cost principles.
- Support prototype building, testing, issue resolution, and product launch activities.
Technology & Innovation
- Drive improvements in product performance, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and sustainability.
- Promote modularity, reusable components, and platform-based design.
- Contribute to CAD automation and engineering process improvements.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices across teams.
Your skills and experience
Experience & Knowledge Requirement:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5–8 years of experience in product design and development.
- Experience in industrial air compressors, rotating equipment, or compressor package design is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Sheet metal and fabricated structures
- Piping and hose selection
- Welding and heavy fabrication
- Mechanical system integration
- Product development processes
- Cooling systems, noise, and vibration
- Working knowledge of DFMEA, Design Reviews, DFM, DFA, and Design Validation.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or equivalent CAD software, such as SolidWorks.
- Experience with PLM systems, preferably Enovia, and ERP/BOM management.
- Ability to perform component-level and system-level engineering calculations.
- Understanding of relevant international engineering standards.
