Applications Engineering Support Specialist

Power and Light (PAL) is a division within Atlas Copco’s Power Technique business area. It develops, manufactures, and markets light towers, generators, and energy storage solutions for a wide range of industries including construction, mining, oil & gas, utilities, and rental. The division operates globally under several brands.


In this role, the Applications Engineering Support Specialist provides technical and analytical support to the Applications Engineering Manager – Power and Light in the implementation, commissioning, testing, validation, and performance evaluation of energy storage systems (ESS), generators, and hybrid power solutions across North America. The position supports engineering activities by assisting with system assessments, field performance evaluations, technical investigations, and product implementation initiatives.


The primary objective of this role is to support the successful deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of energy storage and hybrid power systems through technical evaluations, system validation, data analysis, and engineering support activities. The position works closely with Applications Engineering, Product Development, Service Operations, and customers to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable system performance in real-world applications.


As part of the ongoing energy transition, this role contributes to the advancement of sustainable and hybrid power technologies by supporting engineering evaluations, commissioning verification, product validation activities, and field performance studies. The position assists engineering teams in identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and customer outcomes. Through field observations, system testing, and performance monitoring activities, the Applications Engineering Support Specialist collects and analyzes technical data that supports engineering investigations, root cause analysis, product enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.The position reports directly to the Applications Engineering Manager – Power and Light within the U.S. Customer Center and collaborates closely with Applications Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Training, Service Operations, and external customers to support engineering-related activities and project execution.


You will: 
•    Support the commissioning, testing, validation, and performance optimization of energy storage systems (ESS), generators, and hybrid power solutions across diverse customer applications.
•    Conduct technical evaluations, diagnostics, and data analysis to assess electrical, control, communication, and system-level performance while ensuring compliance with engineering and operational requirements.
•    Interpret electrical schematics, control logic, and communication protocols (including Modbus and CAN) to troubleshoot issues, support root cause analysis, and improve system reliability.
•    Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Service Operations, and customers to support technical projects, product improvements, and solution implementation.
•    Assist with new product introductions, prototype evaluations, firmware/software validation, and production releases through structured testing, field assessments, and performance monitoring.
•    Prepare technical documentation, engineering reports, and training materials while providing product knowledge and system operation guidance to service teams, customer centers, and key customers.

  • The successful candidate must hold Technical diploma or degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field
  •  Equivalent hands-on experience in power systems, generators, or energy storage systems is acceptable
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in electrical systems, controls, and hybrid power solutions
  • Experience with power systems, generators, or battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Knowledge of PLCs, controllers (e.g., DEIF), and communication protocols such as Modbus and CAN
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, and software interfaces for system analysis and troubleshooting
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, service teams, and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic proficiency with computers and software tools (Microsoft Office, service platforms, diagnostic tools)
  • Positive attitude with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and continuous improvement
  • Minimal travel within Canada and the United States is expected (30-60% of the time).

Job location

You will be part of our customer center in Rock Hill SC. You will join a dynamic field service team, working remotely and spending a significant amount of time traveling to visit customers within your designated area, United States (US).
