Job Description

Your Role

The next chapter for General Vacuum Australia is one of growth, scale and investment. Leveraging recent and ongoing investments in talent, organisational capability, and a significantly expanded portfolio across vacuum and adjacent technologies, you will lead the business through its next phase of development. Your focus will be on capturing market opportunities, accelerating organic growth, and prioritising the strategic investments required to create a larger, stronger, and more resilient business for the future.

This is not a turnaround or optimisation role. It is a growth leadership role, requiring the vision, energy, and commercial acumen to scale the business while maintaining sustainable profitability and a strong customer focus. Your mission is to build one aligned Australian organisation, where everyone works as a single team behind a common plan, and to deliver ambitious, sustainable and profitable growth that makes us first in mind and first in choice for Australian customers.

As Country Manager General Vacuum Australia, you carry full profit and loss responsibility for the Australian business and lead a team of approximately 20 people. You are responsible for a business comprising three divisions (VIN, SVD and VTS) and three leading brands: Atlas Copco, Edwards and Leybold.

Your day-to-day

Profit and loss ownership
•    Carry full responsibility for the Australian profit and loss
•    Develop, communicate and execute the business strategy together with the CC leadership team
•    Allocate resources and investments to the opportunities with the highest long-term growth potential, balancing growth, profitability and capability building
•    Deliver results through a disciplined weekly, monthly and quarterly operating rhythm
•    Establish clear commercial disciplines around opportunity management, forecasting, account planning and pipeline development to underpin sustainable growth

Growth in an attractive market
•    Drive market share growth and strengthen our position as the preferred vacuum solutions partner across Australia
•    Capitalise on recent and ongoing investments in sales, service capability and portfolio expansion to accelerate growth across Australia
•    Translate the growth ambition for Australia into a prioritised market plan, with clear target segments, named accounts, owners and measurable milestones
•    Identify and prioritise the investments required in coverage, capability, capacity and market development to support Australia's next phase of growth
•    Accelerate adoption of new technologies and portfolio offerings across existing and new customers, increasing customer share and opening new growth avenues
•    Expand our presence in strategic applications, industries and customer segments, leveraging the full Atlas Copco, Edwards and Leybold portfolio
•    Develop and strengthen direct and indirect routes to market to maximise customer reach and growth potential
•    Assess inorganic growth opportunities, strategic partnerships and other initiatives that can accelerate market expansion

Leading and developing the team
•    Run Australia as one business, protecting the identity and value proposition of each brand while leveraging synergies and removing unnecessary duplication
•    Lead, coach and inspire a team of approximately 20 people across sales, service and operations, building a high-performance, accountability-driven and growth-oriented culture
•    Build the organisational capability, structure and ways of working required to support a significantly larger business over the coming years
•    Develop a strong local leadership team with clear accountability, succession and the capability to scale the business
•    Foster engagement, inclusion and wellbeing, and set the standard on the Atlas Copco Group cultural behaviours

Customers, Service and the Installed Base
•    Own the Australian customer experience end to end, from first enquiry through delivery and service to payment
•    Drive both new customer acquisition and increased share of wallet within the installed base
•    Grow service penetration and increase the value captured from the installed base, making service a key driver of customer loyalty, sustainable growth and profitability
•    Stay personally close to strategic customers, major projects and complex negotiations

Governance, Compliance and Collaboration
•    Ensure full compliance with Group policies, internal control, health and safety and Australian legal requirements
•    Represent Australia in the GV SEAO leadership team and align local execution with divisional strategy together with the Business Line Managers
•    Provide market intelligence, competitive insights and the voice of the customer to influence divisional strategy, portfolio development and investment priorities for Australia
•    Act as the primary representative of General Vacuum Australia internally and externally, strengthening relationships with customers, industry stakeholders and the wider Atlas Copco Group

Your skills and experience

Experience
•    Proven profit and loss experience in an industrial B2B environment, with a track record of growing the top line and margin at the same time
•    Proven experience scaling a business, market, business unit or organisation through a period of sustained growth
•    Experience identifying and prioritising investments in people, market coverage, capability and commercial excellence to support long-term growth
•    Experience from within the Atlas Copco Group is a strong advantage: familiarity with the way we do things, divisional structures, reporting and operating rhythm
•    Knowledge of the Australian market is an advantage

Leadership and Competencies
•    A genuine people leader who attracts, develops and retains talent, creates followership, and holds teams accountable for results
•    Strategic and commercially astute, able to move between the three-year plan and this month's order intake without losing either
•    Comfortable leading through ambiguity and making decisions with imperfect information in a fast-growing environment
•    Strong communicator and negotiator, equally credible with customers, employees and Group management
•    Decisive, resilient, and effective at leading across distance, time zones and cultures

Technical and commercial skills
•    Sound understanding of vacuum, rotating equipment or comparable industrial process technologies
•    Strong commercial acumen, including business planning, pricing, market development and investment prioritisation
•    Data driven, fluent in CRM and business intelligence reporting
•    Comfortable using data and digital tools to drive decisions, improve customer experience and enhance business performance

Other Requirements
•    Degree in engineering, business or a related discipline
•    Fluency in English
•    Willingness to travel regularly across Australia (30%) and to Southeast Asia (5%)
•    Eligibility to live and work in Australia
